And decided this week to stop exercising and to just drink lots of cream and milk instead. I just gained 2lbs in about 4 days. Is this too fast? I might go see a doctor here to see whether or not I should stop the cream and go for something else to tank up on. Have a picture of a skinny car, and a chubby car.

Why do you want to gain weight exactly?

Because my BMI is dangerously low and it would be nice to have some buffer zone in case I end up losing any before an emergency room visit. No eating disorders, just a stupidly fast metabolism.

I have a friend like that, it can get scary. She drinks 2 gallons of whole milk a week to combat her metabolism. Its easier on her heart than cream, less cholesterol

I'm a distance runner which means I'm basically incapable of gaining much weight. Last time I tried I was able to put on 5 lbs in a week (which I then lost back over the next two weeks) by eating ice cream for breakfast, ramen for lunch, and about 3/4 of a pizza for dinner every night.
2 lbs in 4 days is quick but it's not appreciably quicker than the average american gains weight on a cruise ship. I think total weight increase target is a bit more important to consider than rate of gain.

Alright. Not sure how far I want to take it, probably however far enough to where doctors stop handing me anorexia pamphlets.

Eat more food. Don't eat or drink shit stuff. Milk is probably fine but not to excess.
You don't want to gain weight and have it all be fat.

Ouch, that's rough.
Well, from someone who knows what a burden a fast metabolism can be, good luck. Took me quite a while to find a (relatively healthy) diet that let me maintain a decent weight.

I could help you. Just eat what I eat. actually I am not fat but I am trying to lose weight in my face seriously maybe its just getting old but it sucks. YOUR POST MAKES ME HATE YOU.

Just do what I do: spend the next 30 years eating whatever you want while performing a minimal amount of physical activity. You'll be a specimen like me in no time! Or in 30 years!

I can work off the fat into muscle, that's not a problem, and I do need a higher fat content anyway. I can't, however, work out while gaining because it drastically increases the calorie requirements, which I already struggle to meet. I'll try to find a balance.

Avoid using high cholesterol foods/drinks to gain weight. It WILL catch up with you later in life. Try protein, and carbs instead. Your arteries will plaque up very slowly with no effects for decades unitll...

Eat more. Continue to eat healthy. No need to eat fat on purpose, but don't be afraid to put a little real sugar in your coffee.

You want protein, I've had success eating chicken fillets for a lot of my meals and lifting weights. Gone from almost underweight to right in the middle of healthy.

Use a gainer's powder like Optimum's Pro Complex. Work it in to your day. Have a meal before bed. Take a good multivitamin.
You can be all kinds of unhealthy and still not be "fat".

start drinking beer on a regular basis. There isn't an easier way to take in calories than beer. Also in the words of bagel bites "pizza in the morning, pizza in the evening, pizza t supper time."
(I don't completely advocate a pizza and beer diet, but it is amazing.)

Ghost,
That's tough, sorry man.Have you tried lots of starchy foods? Meals with pasta, rice, bread and the like? Those sugars take a bit longer to break down.
As a side note, that 240 is LOVELY! That's what I'd like mine to look like but with VTO LeMans wheels.

A burden? I look at a glass of water and I gain 2 lbs. I have exactly no metabolism at all I think. My wife is a 110lbs asian and I eat way less than her yet I gain weight at an unhealthy rate. Went to the doc and told him I gained 80lbs in 6months and he told me to diet and exercise. yet I eat like a bird and I'm no less active than anyone else. 5'4" tall @ 250lbs now. I went for blood work and I'm as healthy as could be, cholesterols and sugars are 100% where they should be. In my mind something is wrong but the docs don't seem to think so. There is no way that this is normal.
I could use a little fast metabolism right about now, if I eat any less I will flat out starve.

I've been doing the same thing recently. Started at 160 lbs and I'm up to 175 right now. Lift weights. Like a lot of weights. At least every other day. Get some protein powder to supplement your weight gain. Eat as much protein (natural, not powder) as you can. For example, at lunch, I'll eat two pork chops, two to four eggs, a couple slices of bread, and a glass of milk. Make sure to eat plenty of veggies also. I make sure to eat as much spinach as possible every day. Give that a shot.
Basically just eat. Eat constantly throughout the day and you'll be sure to gain some weight.

Try protein mixes like muscle milk or cytosport. They have lots of carbs, but also lots of protein. I put on twenty lbs in high school eating that stuff and lifting weights. I have a very fast metabolism as well.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat, eating calories makes you fat. In my experience (as a permanently skinny running person), eating tons of sugary stuff is almost mandatory for me - not only because of my sweet tooth, but it just seems to give me energy faster.
But if you're looking to be a healthier weight, just eating won't do it. Exercise is mandatory to health, so you can't just bandage your condition by eating til you're an optimum weight. You need to find what feels like the right amount of exercise, then eat whatever silly amount of food you need to keep it up. And maybe get checked for tapeworms.

How active are you? I mean, take a whole day into account - how much time do you spend sitting? Walking? Running/hard exercise?
Like, thinking through my day, I probably spend at least 8 hours sitting. Putting that into a number kinda blows my mind, that half my waking life is spent sitting on a couch, desk, bus seat, etc.

Drink more beer. Or failing that, fruit juice or sweet drinks/soda/coke/whatever. The fat in cream/milk will make you feel full much faster, whereas your body doesn't really notice the calories in sweet drinks, especially if you're thirsty.

Sounds like you do have a fast metabolism if you put on weight that fast. You need more exercise. I don't really remember the details, but some people use much more energy than others just sitting around, or wandering around the office at work, or whatever. Even just things like drumming your fingers on the desk, or shifting position in your chair a lot, or how much you move from foot to foot when standing, can make a big difference, and so can things like your body temperature and heat-loss rate, so it's hard to compare to others.
At the end of the day, if your energy input is greater than your energy output, you'll gain weight. The other way around, you'll lose weight. If your input is as low as you can get it, you need to increase your output.

You know BMI is just a starting point, right? It's nothing more than a very, very broad generalisation which has to be adjusted for your physique and then gives nothing more than something to think about rather than a prescription for action.
It's quite possible to be entirely healthy, but to be well outside the bounds of the recommended BMI for good reasons. When I was in my late teens/early twenties I had a BMI just below 30 - seriously obese - despite having almost no body fat and being very fit, because muscle is heavy.

Wait a few years.
I used to be like this, then my metabolism changed, then hypothyroidism kicked in.
